I'm what somebody called an "anthropological mystery" fan. I am happiest reading mysteries that transport me to another place or time in a convincing fashion, and offers me characters that I enjoy being with. I stayed up much too late last night, promising myself that I would quit at the end of each chapter. After three hours, I ran out of book and wondered how fast I could get the next installment. I won't recount the plot, since the professional reviews do that, but Sedley delivers an involving world with intriguing characters. I like the fact that minor characters recur from time to time and that Roger's life changes, as life will, instead of becoming stuck in a single situation.Product details

I am in the middle of this book right now and have enjoyed it so far and read each day more to find out what happens next for them.
This was the first Roger Chapman mystery I read, and it started me down the road. This era of English history has intrigued many besides me. Richard III, was he or was't he?

Great story, great characters. Never disappoints!
My sister recommended this author to me many years ago, but I was unable to find copies of her books (even in the library), so I was happy to find versions recently. "Happy" turned into thrilled, because they are delightful, exciting mysteries set in an especially interesting time in English history. Sedley's characters are very human, but her attention to historic detail is excellent. Her earlier Roger the Chapman mysteries are hard to find, but I have high hopes that copies will soon be made available. If you like medieval mysteries, I highly recommend this series.
