This is a relatively short work, as Augustine's works go, and, for the average reader, it will be tougher going than the first nine chapters of "Confessions" and even of "The City of God". Even though it appears to be a digest of Augustine's positions, it is dense, and often seems to not be going anywhere. But it does progress, slowly. What an unfamiliar reader may not realize, even after reading the book, is that it is directed primarily at the Pelagian heresy, so it spends a lot of time on the issue of free will.It is probably better, as an introduction to Augustine, than many of his other works, but not as good as "Confessions".
